Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 16, 2026

Soapbox is a real-time debate platform operated by Soapbox Technologies Inc. (“Soapbox,” “we,” “us”). This policy describes the information we collect and how we use it. As the product evolves, we’ll update this page.

Information we collect

  • Account information: your email address. Accounts are created with an email address and password.
  • Profile information: any optional profile data you provide (username, display name, avatar).
  • Debate activity: records of the debates you take part in and the assignments and topics assigned to you.
  • Audio recordings:we record each debater’s audio during live debates for the sole purpose of generating a transcript. We delete the recording once transcription is complete.
  • Transcripts: recordings are transcribed to text, which we retain as a record of the debate.
  • Classroom data: when Soapbox is used in a classroom, teachers create classes and assignments and invite students by email. We store enrollment, participation, transcripts, and grades and feedback. Some students may be minors.
  • Contact submissions: if you contact us or request a pilot through our site, we collect your name, email address, and message.
  • Technical data: standard server logs (IP address, browser, timestamps) used to operate the service and prevent abuse.
  • Usage and diagnostic data: where product analytics are enabled, we collect pseudonymous records of feature use, page routes with record identifiers removed, performance measurements, and error reports. We do not include debate content, transcript text, written feedback, names, email addresses, or session recordings in this analytics data.

How we use information

To operate the platform: pairing debaters within assignments, running live debates, transcribing recordings, and securing accounts. Transcripts are analyzed by AI to score debates and provide feedback. In classrooms, we give teachers access to their students’ debates, transcripts, and grades. We use contact submissions to respond to your inquiry. We use pseudonymous usage, performance, and error data to understand adoption, improve reliability, and diagnose problems. We do not sell personal information.

Service providers

We rely on trusted third-party service providers to operate the platform—including hosting, database and authentication, live audio, transcription, AI evaluation, email, and, where enabled, product analytics and diagnostics. These providers process information on our behalf and are bound by confidentiality obligations.

Students and schools

When Soapbox is used for classroom debate, the teacher directs how their students’ data is used within the platform. Teachers can access their students’ debates, transcripts, and grades. Because some students may be minors, we limit access to classroom data to the student and their teacher.
